How to Fix Your Smile
A smile can change your entire appearance. Our teeth are among our most noticeable facial features, and when we smile and expose them, we let those around know what we really look like. Therefore, much of our appearance and how people perceive us depend on the set of teeth we have. This is why so many patients report that their self-esteem and self-confidence have boosted after they get their teeth fixed, to fix their smile.
At MD Periodontics, we serve those who live in and around Beverly Hills with state-of-the-art cosmetic dentistry. We do everything in our power to make sure our patients have the best services. We understand just how important your teeth are in determining not just your dental health but appearance as well.
Below, we explain the most common types of general cosmetic dentistry common in and around Beverly Hills.
Gum recession surgery
Gum recession surgery, also known as gum grafts, is a type of dental procedure used to treat gum recession. This is a common dental issue that a lot of adults have – gradual recession of the gum tissue, exposing more of the tooth root. There are 3 types of gum graft procedures – pedicle grafts, free-gingival grafts, and connective-tissue grafts.
Dentists often use tissue from the roof of the patient’s mouth, surrounding gum or from a tissue bank, and stitch it to the exposed tooth root.
Braces are an extremely common orthodontic tool to correct misaligned teeth. If left untreated, misaligned teeth can lead to other severe dental issues. The idea of wearing braces is that a controlled and directed force will be produced by the braces on the teeth, gradually aligning them within a specific period of time.
There are three different types of braces –
- Brackets placed at the front of the patient’s teeth
- Brackets attached to the back of the patient’s teeth
- Metal bands that wrap around the patient’s teeth
A common cosmetic dentistry procedure, teeth whitening, also known as teeth bleaching, is used to remove stains from your teeth, thus helping them to retain their natural color again. It is also possible to make your teeth look even lighter and brighter than their natural, original color.
Teeth whitening is a simple procedure that can be done in your dentist’s office itself, without requiring any downtime.
Bone grafting is a dental procedure that helps to correct issues with jawbones and/or soft tissues. At MD Periodontics, we offer two kinds of bone grafting, namely ridge augmentation, and ridge preservation. Ridge augmentation is a dental procedure where a missing tissue or bone is restored in cases of severe deficiency in bone and/or soft tissue, by taking the bone or tissue from another area in the mouth. It is often done along with dental implants or other restorative procedures.
On the other hand, ridge preservation is a procedure where your natural tissue is preserved as much as possible, protecting it from damage when one of your teeth is extracted. You can select it as a part of the extraction process if you wish.
