There are an estimated 10,000 people per day reaching retirement age in America and many of them are in need of dental restorations. Until recently, there have been two choices for those needing restorations; wearing removable devices such as dentures or undergoing expensive and time consuming dental implant surgery.
There is now an exciting alternative which offers Los Angeles residents all of the benefits of dental implants but in a fraction of the time and far less cost. Called All-on-4, this method provides a full and permanent set of beautiful teeth on only 4 implants and even better, the procedure usually takes only 2 office visits.
What is All-on-4?
This technique was developed as a faster and less expensive alternative to traditional dental implant surgery. In a traditional dental implant procedure patients have 10 to 14 implants placed in each jaw to support individual teeth. Obviously the time required to place numerous implants requires several sessions with the specialist. Not everyone has the bone density, time or finances to even consider dental implants. The solution to this was the development of the All-on-4 dental implant technique.
Using only 4 implants to anchor a full arch of upper or lower teeth, patients can have a functioning set of teeth in about 2 visits to our Beverly Hills clinic. Our patients are delighted to live their lives with no dentures, no messy adhesives to deal with and best of all, full confidence restored. All-on-4 has been used in Los Angeles for several years with stellar results. Once the permanent arch has been placed, the result is a beautiful set of natural teeth that function just as natural teeth.
The All-on-4 procedure requires only 2 treatment sessions
At MD Periodontics in Beverly Hills, the procedure begins with a thorough dental exam which includes imaging scans to determine the exact right location for each implant. Implants are made of titanium or zirconia materials which have a proven record of thoroughly integrating with bone and providing a solid foundation for restorative work.
MD Periodontics uses advanced imaging equipment which allows Dr. Moshrefi or Dr. Daneshmand to confidently place each implant exactly as planned. Patients may need an additional session to prepare for All-on-4 if they need extractions or if there is significant periodontal disease. A full plan of treatment is discussed with each patient to include any preparatory needed.
On the day of surgery, patients are made comfortable with the agreed upon anesthetic method and the implants are placed. At the same time, a temporary denture is placed on the implants. Patients leave the office with a full set of teeth to serve them while healing takes place. If both the upper and lower jaws are being replaced, there will be a second day of surgery identical to the first usually scheduled the next day.
Each patient heals differently. It takes between 3 and 6 months for the implants to thoroughly integrate with the jaw bone. Once this has been accomplished, the custom made set of teeth will be permanently affixed. This finalizes the treatment.
Less time, less money and still…a full set of permanent teeth
The benefits of this method of restoration are many. For patients who are unable to undergo extensive dental implant surgery, this technique is a distinct advantage. Placing four implants requires less time and recovery is proportionately less.
Financially having only 4 implants placed as opposed to 10 to 14 is obviously less work and less cost. Time wise recovery is much faster since far fewer implants are placed.
Patients with All-on-4 implants have a full set of permanent set of teeth that do not need to be removed for cleaning and are stable enough to eat foods that would be impossible with dentures. Patients can confidently eat steak, hard fruits and vegetables and other foods just as they would with natural teeth. Enjoying the best that Los Angeles restaurants offer is only one of the many benefits that All-on-4 dental implants provide.
Medical benefits of All-on-4 implants
Another very important benefit that is often overlooked is the increase in bone density in the jaw. When teeth are missing, the bone that formerly supported the tooth (or teeth) begins to disintegrate as there are no forces stimulating the production of new bone. Creating a full, functioning set of teeth naturally stimulates bone, which maintains a youthful aspect to the jaw. The look we associate with very aged people…recessed jaw and collapsed oral cavity is a result of this bone loss process.
Caring for All-on-4 restorations is no different than for natural teeth. Regular visits to our Beverly Hills clinic will be necessary to check and clean these teeth just as natural teeth would be maintained.
Am I a candidate for All-on-4?
If you have the need for full dental restorations and are healthy enough for elective surgery, you are a good candidate for this procedure. Patients who have undergone this method are delighted to find they can live their lives free of concern about their teeth and whether or not they can eat certain foods. Additionally, people who don’t want the embarrassment associated with removable dentures are delighted to find they can live out their lives with permanent teeth that function just as well, or better than their natural teeth.
Today’s seniors see themselves as at least 9 years younger than their calendar years. Many are still working full time jobs. Having to wear the dentures like their grandparents did is not an option that most are happy to consider. All-on-4 is the answer to the natural effects of aging in the mouth.
